Help Build Our Kimochi Dedication Wall

In 2021, Kimochi, Inc. proudly celebrated 50 years of dedicated service to Bay Area seniors and their caregivers. Our mission remains strong as we look ahead to the next 50 years—to provide the highest level of quality care, rooted in the Japanese tradition of respect for our elders, for future generations of seniors of all backgrounds.

By 2030, all baby boomers will be over the age of 65. This expansion of our senior population means there will be a growing number of adults who, despite their desire to live independently, may need to rely on the help of others. Kimochi will be there.

We recognize the challenges that lie ahead: a rapidly aging population, families living farther apart, and ongoing uncertainties around government funding. In response, we humbly ask for your support to continue and expand Kimochi’s vital services that help so many seniors live with dignity and independence, delaying or avoiding the need for institutionalization.

To that end, we have the Kimochi Dedication Wall representing Kimochi’s commitment, together with the commitment of a community of families, friends, donors and volunteers, to be there for future generations of seniors and their caregivers. Our goal is to raise $500,000 in individual and corporate gifts, with all monies dedicated to directly benefit our senior programs and services.

Please help ensure the continued work of Kimochi by supporting the Dedication Wall through a tax-deductible gift or by joining our Legacy Society. We thank you for your consideration and ‘kimochi’ for our seniors.

GIVING FROM YOUR IRA

You can support Kimochi through your Individual Retirement Account (IRA). If you are 70 1/2 and older, you can make gifts up to $100,000 per year directly from your IRA ($200,000 for a couple with separate IRAs) to tax-exempt charitable organizations like Kimochi. These distributions will not be included in your taxable income and they count towards your annual Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). This popular gift option is commonly referred to as Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD).

Most funds withdrawn from IRAs are considered ordinary income, and will thus increase your total taxable income. This can push you into a higher tax bracket or result in a higher Medicare premium. But a QCD to a qualified charity does not count as income. And beginning in the year you turn 72, you can use such gifts from your IRA to satisfy all or part of your annual RMDs. And because your gift from your IRA generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, you benefit even if you do not itemize your deductions.

In order to qualify as a QCD, the distribution must go directly from your IRA to Kimochi. If you decide to give in the form of a QCD, please share Kimochi's legal name, address and tax ID as follows with your IRA administrator:

  • Kimochi, Inc.

  • 1715 Buchanan Street, San Francisco, CA 94115

  • Tax ID#: 23-7117402

Please instruct your IRA administrator to make a QCD directly to Kimochi, Inc. And please let us know about your gift so we know who to acknowledge.

“When my husband, Ben, and I purchased the Buchanan Mall Building in Japantown, we decided to leave half of it to Kimochi in our estate plan. This gift was from our hearts - and it was our hope that it inspires others to remember the organizations that do so much for our community”

Mary Ishisaki, longtime community supporter, businesswoman, philanthropist and Kimochi Board and Legacy Society member.
